About

I’m a multidisciplinary artist working across multiple mediums, including drawing, clay sculpture and ceramics, watercolor and ink, tufting, photography, video art, and various other mixed media approaches.

Most of my inspiration comes from the things that have shaped me and surround me. I was raised as a Syrian Jewish New Yorker, so much of my work is influenced by my Syrian Jewish heritage and life in New York City. I’m also inspired by nature and the people I encounter in everyday life.

My background also includes the study of human development, social work, and therapeutic play. Working closely with children has influenced the way I approach making art, reminding me to stay curious, experiment freely with materials and ideas, and create with the same openness and instinct that children bring to play. Alongside my Syrian Jewish and New York identity, this sense of curiosity, play, and exploration has become an important influence on my artistic practice.

Behind the name

I create under the name Audrey Rochelle. Rochelle is my middle name, which comes from my Hebrew name, רחל. Audge is the nickname my friends and family call me. The star in my signature is inspired by the Star of David- my way of carrying a part of my Jewish identity with me into each piece I make.
